  9.      Welcome to the first edition on Influx.  A free commodore zine
  10.   written for the Commodore Pirates by Commodore Pirates.  Influx was
  11.   created on the night on June 19,1988 around 11:00 pm with Candyman,
  12.   Infernal, Jimmy Z & myself.  Influx will published around the 15th
  13.   and the 30th of each month but don't keep an eye on those dates.
  14.   My name is Nomaad and I am the self decreed tyrant or otherwhise
  15.   termed editor.  Each issue will consist of at least 2 features and
  16.   about 9 departments.  The departments may alter from issue to issue
  17.   The editorials and idea expressed may not represent the views of
  18.   editor or the staff of Influx.  The sustenance of the articles is
  19.   purely for informational purposes.  If you feel you have been
  20.   falsely wronged or such then you will have equal oppurtunity to
  21.   rebuttle the views as well.  Anyone who has the talent or the

  52.  So some pirates got together to write a magazine huh? Big deal,
  53.  whats the point.  We are hoping to accomplish a few things here,
  54.  not the least being the acquisition of credits by uploading this
  55.  to good boards.  The main aim is to inform, and the next is to
  56.  entertain.  We intend to keep the pages serious enough to be
  57.  believable, but not so serious as to be an effective tranquilizer.
  58.  We will have facts, opinions and jokes labeled as such so you the
  59.  reader can distinguish them.  If you dont like some of the things
  60.  you read, if they make you mad, and get you ranting and raving, we
  61.  are at least partially doing our job.  If you have any disputes with
  62.  the articles in the magazine, be they factual disputes or disputes
  63.  on opinions, direct all responses, in letter form, to the bbs's
  64.  listed herein.  We are currently looking for reporters to work for
  65.  Influx. If interested, leave feedback on one of the bbs's or in one
  66.  of the VMBs listed.

  97.      Well, they want me to write an article for the premier edition
  98.  of this magazine huh?  Seems kind of strange, me of all people
  99.  writing this article. 3 months ago, I had never heard of any of you
  100.  people, and really had no idea of what an elite board was. All in
  101.  all I am almost dissapointed at how easy the climb has been.  I now
  102.  run a bbs that is legitimately 0-1 days, and that may not be a major
  103.  acheivement, but somehow I dont think a person should get this far
  104.  this fast. You should have to WORK at it some, not just dial and
  105.  trade for 90 days.  At one time, not too far ago, I looked mystified
  106.  at title screens by such awesome groups as BBI and HSI.
  107.       Now I abhor the thought of getting the crap that they put out.
  108.   I would have never believed that I would actually someday TALK to
  109.  the likes of ESI members.  Now it doesnt seem such a big deal. At
  110.  one time, anyone who ran a bbs and called itself elite intimidated
  111.  me. That has changed,but the sad thing is,it took too short a time.
  112.  I guess the whole idea behind this is that anyone can be elite if
  113.  they have a little time and like calling boards.  Dont ya wish it
  114.  was a little harder? I know I do, especially now that I am most of
  115.  the way there....

  122. The sysops side

  126.      A hell of a lot of you are sysops, and I think if you read this,
  127.  you will agree with most of it.

  130.       A sysops main concern is his bbs.  He lives for his bbs, he
  131.  changes his underwear for his bbs. He breathes for his bbs. A normal
  132.  pirate, if he exists, gets a game because he wants it, to play, to
  133.  have, or whatever reason, the having the game is the central theme.
  134.  To a sysop, the central theme isnt the game or even having it, its
  135.  his BBS having it.  God forbid it dont make it to your bbs the day
  136.  of the release,or dont even imagine it not getting there for 3 days.
  137.  The ultimate insult to a sysop is to upload him a good game he hasnt
  138.  gotten yet.  He desperately wants you to send it, but at the same
  139.  time, he is sure he is superior to you, and it  is just some weird
  140.  fluke due to the alignment of the planets that you had it first.
  141.  When you beg for credits, and that sysop gets mad, when you leave,
  142.  dont kid yourself, you made his day.  Its not him giving you the
  143.  credits that makes him feel better, its you HAVING to ask.  If you
  144.  really want to make him feel good, do it often enough and he will
  145.  have the ultimate enjoyment and delete you from the system.  That is
  146.  where the real fun comes in.
  147.      I had the supreme pleasure of deleting a user once because he
  148.  didnt heed the nasty mail i sent him about sending old files. The
  149.  second time he did it, I hit the ole 'U' at the sysop command and
  150.  hit the 3 key, punched in the handle, and told it 'Y' when it asked
  151.  was I sure. I thought that was a lot of fun. The true fun is when
  152.  this particular caller dialed me on my voice line to ask why he was
  153.  deleted.  When I told him, he literally cried aloud in anguish. I
  154.  may have been unhappy with my bbs to that point,but after that call,
  155.  I felt great.  It wasnt in the causing of the pain that I took the
  156.  pride, it was in the system that was desired. Any sysop out there
  157.  reading this, always remember, if it werent for someone being lame,
  158.  you wouldnt be elite. If you didnt have to listen to em whine for
  159.  credits, that means they dont need what you have online.  Be damn
  160.  thankful for the little lamers, they remind us all of the fact that
  161.  our boards are important to someone, and they have a habit of doing
  162.  it when we need it.  After all, is it ever as much fun playing
  163.  a game if you get it a day old as it is if you get it first in the
  164.  country?  Its not the games, its the chase.

  180.      First off,what is it with spelling everything with a "z"? Latez?
  181.  Slatez? Slaterz? I mean, duh, what am I supposed to say to "Slaterz
  182.  on,duuuuuuuude." It's not exactly the queen's english,you see.

  190.  Anyway....I can remember a time when I was happy to get Green Valley
  191.  Software (and those of you who are truely elite will have NO IDEA
  192.  what Green Valley Software was).

  195.      Now, I'm seeing software at least six months before any of the
  196.  commodore magazines review it. The people at the local Commodore
  197.  Users Group think I'm a god.  Their "hot shot pirate" showed me a
  198.  list of warez that was at least two years old...I showed him a box
  199.  of software I had brought along, and it was really funny,watching
  200.  lust creep all over Willie's face.While he was giving a demostration
  201.  of a print-shop type program,I was making a few copies of Test Drive
  202.  for some of the people there I knew.God,now I'm a stud.

  205.  Until recently,the only phone phreaker I've met was Cutter John...
  206.  nice kid, but at 4'9 inches,he kinda looks like Beaver Cleaver.Now
  207.  I've met other phreakers,and had the chance to chat with overseas

  229. Musical Pirates:

  233.      Well, this is the first installment of Musical Pirates.  Leading
  234.  off the group has to be Kid Quick. First he goes from importing and
  235.  bbs'ing for Abyss, then he joins Epic.  Next he quits Epic and forms
  236.  his own group.  Then he quits his own group and joins Epic. Then he
  237.  quits Epic and joins Orion USA. Then Orion USA, following KQs lead,
  238.  changes its name immediately to AMW. Kid Quick immediately leaves
  239.  AMW and  joins The Survivors, minus all but two members.  I havent
  240.  seen that much hopping since Joan Collins got off the rag.
  241.  
  242.      Other movers include:Peacemaker started off with IRS, quit IRS
  243.  to join TU.  Took control of TU and changed the name to OUT, and
  244.  then quit to go with Public Enemy. This aint the end folks. Not
  245.  happy being a Public Enemy, he then quit to re-form TU(or OUT
  246.  which ever you wanna go with....). After that, he decided to go
  247.  ahead and join Abyss. He left Abyss to form Orion USA(with Kid Quick
  248.  no less) and they stayed in that group for a day. Then on to AMW and
  249.  now it seems that Peacemaker has joined the largest group taking new
  250.  members, BUSTED.  Influx has not been able to confirm the rumor of
  251.  Peacemakers alleged bust, and at the writing of this article, we
  252.  have failed in our attempts to contact him.

  254.      Other movers:Blackbeard-TIC,Abyss,The Survivors, Orion-USA (with
  255.  Kid Quick & Peacemaker no less),The Survivors again,AMW,and now in
  256.  Illusion.(I think)

  258.  Sinbad-(in memory of)TWB ,NO ,SFX ,TAV(old) ,TAV(new), TU, FBR, PE,
  259.  then that growing group, BUSTED.
  260.  Once again Sinbads bust has not been confirmed by a trained medical
  261.  doctor.

  263.  Firewalker-(in memoriae) TWB, TEC, MWI, NFI, PE?, Epic and then
  264.  rumour has it he has quit pirating

  267.  There were lots of others, but I am too damn tired, and feel seasick
  268.  due to all the moving, so this is it for now.

  278.  A lot of people have been busted lately, and I have a few opinions
  279.  about it.
  280.  
  281.      I dont think that at this point, there have been many people
  282.  turning in each other, I think that is just getting started. What I
  283.  do think has happened is this, I think that the Sprint backdoors
  284.  that people were using are coming back to haunt them. A hell of a
  285.  lot of people are getting billed, and they are turning people in to
  286.  avoid paying the bills.  Its a chickenshit way to do it, but thats
  287.  the way it is.  Be careful of any callers that you had as a sysop
  288.  who have suddenly quit calling your bbs. I would imagine that one of
  289.  the other things they did to get out of trouble with Sprint is to
  290.  quit doing what got em in trouble.

  292.  At one time, there was a phrase referring to honor among thieves.
  293.  It was never less valid than it is today.

  301.      From June 15th til June 20th the Commodore Pirate World got a  
  302.   little tipped on its ass.  We basically saw the end of one of
  303.   the better importing groups around, The Survivors.  Satan, Dr.D,
  304.   Satan, & BlackBeard all left TS or America's Most Wanted to
  305.   form with two members of The Seventh Sector, Big Man & Intruder,
  306.   to form the new group Illusion. The group took possesion of
  307.   the old Survivor box only to loose it to some idiot name Enrico.
  308.   Illusion would later add Alleykat and round off there roster with
  309.   the Bermuda Triangle.  Illusion has a nice start with Valentino
  310.   and Nerdload.  Nerdload claiming to be the best utility program
  311.   ever written.  Unfortunately there are several things which will
  312.   do the same thing as Nerdload but it is a new group and Satan's
  313.   Intro is real nice.
  314.      Other Pirate News Might be that Kid Quick quit EPIC on good
  315.   terms and he joined TS.  To fill the gap EPIC quickly added
  316.   Candyman and his Board the Desert Inn.  Good Luck to Both.
  317.   EagleSoft took on some new members such as Depeche Mode and
  318.   rumoured to be another Ghost Rider.  In the past week Abyss
  319.   died and re emerged loosing its Amiga Cadre and Longshot/ABYSS.
  320.   Abyss may return to the importing game.  Instinct joined up with
  321.   The Sorcerer to add to Public Enemys' posse.   
  322.      June also saw the break up of what the world thought was a
  323.   stable pirate group, INC. INC with its 3 members and the best
  324.   contacts in Europe seemed to be set for life.  But The Butcher
  325.   ran into problems with Shark and he left group, right before
  326.   Depeche Mode joins ESI.  Butcher forms the group WHY? with John
  327.   Doe from ISE and Warlock.  His 4 sided crack of Master Ninja was
  328.   rumoured to be false and Influx has had no confirmation either
  329.   way.  Meanwhile Shark has redone INC by adding The Hunter formerly
  330.   of New Age, the Duplicator, and Xfactor, longtime formerly of
  331.   The Eternal Force.  Rumour say JNP is a member but as yet this
  332.   hasn't been confirmed.
  333.      On a more sombre note. June also saw several pirates leave the
  334.   the pirate world.  Being for long periods of time or just til they
  335.   need to come back they have gone.  Rumour has it many have been
  336.   busted, narced, turned narc or gotten a social life.  As usual
  337.   this is only hearsay and Influx can confirm nothing.  Joing the
  338.   ranks of those been busted were Sinbad and Peacemaker.  Regardless
  339.   off them, Both were fine importers and pirates.  According to
  340.   YoungKing, the only king, Perplexer has quit because he can't
  341.   handle a full time job and pirating.  But this is Perplexer's
  342.   second exodus.  The first you remember was his quest for a social
  343.   life.  Good Luck Perplexer, Sinbad, & PeaceMaker.  Gone to Amiga
  344.   was Boba Fette and he may remain on 64 as well.
  345.      June was a rocked month for pirating many people left, alot
  346.   more came in.  Groups started and ended.  More importantly
  347.   came Influx.

  357.  anymore.  Oh Well it may be none of our business but in pirating it

  770. been cracked.I don't think it's wrong.
  771. Let me explain.
  772.   There are no rules governing pirate
  773. groups.The understanding pirate groups
  774. have between each other is that if
  775. you screw up, you will not be 
  776. respected.And most pirates want 
  777. respect and recognition.
  778.   Most of the older pirate groups
  779. crack to send their software to
  780. other pirates so it can be enjoyed.
  781. Most of today's pirate groups crack
  782. to gain fame and soon the fame goes
  783. straight to their heads.
  784.   I feel a crack should be released
  785. after a crack if the first crack didn't
  786. work,if there was limited distribution,
  787. or if the newer crack has something
  788. new to offer like unlimited lives etc.
  789. etc.
  790.   The people that oppose cracking
  791. after the crack say that there are
  792. enough renames and shit files that
  793. they don't need this.And they are
  794. wrong.But this is not a rename we
  795. are talking about here.The difference
  796. between the file name of these cracks
  797. are the last few letters which 
  798. determine who cracked the game.
  799.   The main point of piracy is to
  800. distribute and recieve unprotected
  801. software.When a pirate goes
  802. onto a bbs and removes all of it's
  803. software so that his group can release
  804. their own version is absolutely 'lame'.

  806. a software company then they are only
  807. part of the problem and not the
  808. solution.

  937.  This article is dedicated to my
  938. friends in FAC (Marcel), DCS, and
  939. Future Project (Frans and Richard). I
  940. was once a member of FBR. Ninja and I
  941. shared the control of the group during
  942. that time. It was either him or I that
  943. would import all the softwares you see
  944. at that time. Everything we would do
  945. concerning the status of the group
  946. resulted in a discussion with me and
  947. him. There is a BIG difference between
  948. the original FBR and the new FBR. In
  949. this article I will take you back into
  950. time when FBR was first born and
  951. contributing to the import market. All the information here are written
  952. truthfully. I believed I am very
  953. qualified in writing this article since
  954. I took part in leading FBR and knew how
  955. it formed and how we functioned daily. I am merely recalling history as it has
  956. happened.

  960.   Groups born fast and groups die fast!
  961. But this is different when it comes to
  962. FBR - (Fucked Beyond Repair). No other
  963. 'importing group' has ever contributed
  964. to the importing community as much as
  965. FBR, at that time. Many are curious
  966. about the first formation of this
  967. group. This article is written for that
  968. purpose and to show the real difference
  969. between the 'old original' FBR and the
  970. 'new' FBR.
  971.  
  972.   The group was first formed during the
  973. winter months of the year 1986,
  974. (November, I believe). Its first
  975. leading president and founder was 'The
  976. Punisher', (Adam Cooper in Indiana). He
  977. also formed or was a member in such
  978. groups as - SSI (Silent Service Inc),
  979. KOF (Knights of Fortune), and many
  980. others. At this time he discussed with
  981. Microman about forming a group
  982. together. I believe Microman came up
  983. with the name FBR. So after giving the
  984. group a name, they needed importers.
  985. That's where Ninja and I came in. They
  986. gave Ninja a call and asked if he
  987. wanted to join and indeed he did. After
  988. giving him a call, they called me
  989. (Infernal) and asked me if I wanted to
  990. join. I gladly accepted their offer.
  991.  
  992.  
  993.   Then history took its place. The
  994. first four original members were:
  995.  
  996.  1. The Punisher (Adam) - President
  997.  2. Infernal (Me) - Importer & Artist
  998.  3. Ninja (Kevin) - Importer
  999.  4. Microman (Dave) - ???
  1000.  
  1001.   As soon as the group formed, The
  1002. Punisher gave us ( Ninja and Me) many
  1003. of his contacts, ranging from
  1004. Headbanger to FAC (Federation Against
  1005. Copyright). Many people mocked us but
  1006. they will soon realize the truth and
  1007. consequences. People thought we could
  1008. not make it with such a name. They
  1009. thought the group was only a joke.
  1010. Maybe this was one of the forces that
  1011. intimidated us to prove that we are
  1012. better. From then on Ninja and I began
  1013. talking to Europeans about trading with
  1014. us exclusively and their replies were
  1015. 'YES'. We began calling them up by the
  1016. dozens on conferences, such groups or
  1017. crackers as Triad, Headbanger, NSC
  1018. (Stephen / Non-Stop Cracker), Dynamic
  1019. Duo, TLC (The Light Circle), TMC, SCC
  1020. (Swedish Cracking Crew), 1001 Crew, DCS
  1021. and many others. We had an ambition to
  1022. take control of the importing market.
  1023. That ambition gave us the energy to
  1024. fulfill the goal. At that time I traded
  1025. with NSC (who also traded with Dynamic
  1026. Duo, TLC and other big shots), who
  1027. supplied us with most of the German
  1028. cracks. German cracks were big back
  1029. then. Cracks came out from German the
  1030. most. On the other hand, Ninja traded
  1031. with Headbanger (who also supplied us
  1032. with many softwares). We traded fairly
  1033. with everyone. We did not take anyone
  1034. for advantage. Anything that was out,
  1035. we sent it to our contacts. They
  1036. (Europeans) did the same for us. This
  1037. was the FBR system. We respected
  1038. everyone and every group and in turn
  1039. they respected us. FBR then began to
  1040. import more softwares and began to be
  1041. recognized and respected. Our only
  1042. competitor was KOF, but not for very
  1043. long. But as soon as they began to drop
  1044. out, we dropped in. At this time Ninja
  1045. losted Headbanger to the Amiga world.
  1046. He then looked for another group to
  1047. trade with, the group was Triad in
  1048. Sweden. I was still trading with NSC
  1049. and the German guys.
  1050.  
  1051.  
  1052.   We needed a real programmer so
  1053. Microman went out to search for one and
  1054. came up with, YES!, 'Changeling', and
  1055. he was added in. Changeling (Jim) was a
  1056. poor programmer at that time but was
  1057. ambitious to learn and did. The
  1058. Punisher at this time resigned from FBR
  1059. due to personal difficulties at home. I
  1060. and Ninja then assumed leadership of
  1061. the group. 'We ran FBR and made it what
  1062. it was and is.' Ninja and I began to
  1063. look for more contacts to trade with.
  1064. We came up with Triad and TCB (The
  1065. Commodore Boys) and we added in The
  1066. Invincible Importer, who was an
  1067. American with an American system in
  1068. Holland. Anything that was cracked by
  1069. anyone in Holland was given to us by
  1070. him. Many groups such as RAD and KOF
  1071. tried to steal him but failed.
  1072.  
  1073.   I then feel that we needed another
  1074. programmer in the group. I met Death
  1075. Demon (Bruce) somewhere on a bridge and
  1076. began talking to him. I gave him my
  1077. number and told him to give me a call
  1078. and he did. After talking to him for a
  1079. while, I believed that he could
  1080. contribute to FBR. I asked the other
  1081. members of the group if they wanted him
  1082. in. All but one accepted him. Microman
  1083. felt that we did not need another
  1084. programmer but I did. I added Bruce in
  1085. anyway regardless of what any members
  1086. said. Now this was THE FBR in its
  1087. climax.
  1088.  
  1089.  The FBR membership list were:
  1090.  
  1091.  1. Infernal (Me)
  1092.  2. Ninja
  1093.  3. Microman
  1094.  4. Changeling
  1095.  5. Death Demon
  1096.  6. Invincible Importer (Brian/Holland)
  1097.  
  1098.   After TCB began giving us only
  1099. failure. We felt that FBR needed
  1100. another contact. Ninja began trading
  1101. with Triad now and was pouring imports
  1102. in from them. He traded with them
  1103. exclusively. I on the other traded with
  1104. my friend Marcel of FAC. I imported
  1105. almost every crack from the mainland of
  1106. Europe from Marcel in Holland. The
  1107. cracks ranged from Hotline, TMC,
  1108. Apha-flight, New Edition, FCS and all
  1109. the mainland European crackers. Ninja
  1110. imported from the outland of European,
  1111. cracks ranging from Triad to Fairlight.
  1112. We put out almost everything possible
  1113. but there were few cracks that escaped
  1114. from our hands to other small groups.
  1115. FBR was the BEST at this point with the
  1116. combined work of Ninja and me. Credit
  1117. goes to where it is due!
  1118.  
  1119.   To prove to the world that we were
  1120. not just a typical American group. We
  1121. asked our programmers to show their
  1122. skill(s). We did not want to be just 'a
  1123. group.' We wanted to be 'The Best
  1124. Group.' Changeling came out with demos
  1125. entitled:     1. Negative Earth
  1126.               2. Ground Zero
  1127.  
  1128.  
  1129.  Death Demon also released his demos
  1130. entitled:     1. High Voltage
  1131.               2. Abstract Reality
  1132.  
  1133.   From then on people began to
  1134. recognized and respect us. We gave our
  1135. contacts and friends whatever came out.
  1136.   Imports began pouring from Ninja and
  1137. me like rain and was this way for many
  1138. many months.
  1139.  
  1140.         As time passed by...
  1141.  
  1142.   That final and sad day came when
  1143. Ninja received a call from MCI in
  1144. Georgia concerning illegal calls made
  1145. by him. They threatened him and demand
  1146. that he stop or will be prosecuted and
  1147. he was. They had his voice number and
  1148. continously called him up to harass him
  1149. and attempted to pull informations out of him. Never the less he kept on calling out.
  1150.   I then got hit by MCI because I was
  1151. hacking into their local system. They
  1152. gave me no warning calls or anything
  1153. like that. Approximately 4 to 6 Feds
  1154. came over to my house and confiscated
  1155. my equipments. After being BUSTED
  1156. people everywhere (I don't even know
  1157. their names) called me up and asked for
  1158. my contacts. I felt that someone I know
  1159. should have my contact. That someone
  1160. was Boba Fette (Pat). I saw that he
  1161. needed to join a group since the break
  1162. up of TC (The Cult). I made him a
  1163. member of FBR and he took my place of
  1164. importing from FAC (but not from
  1165. Marcel). He traded with Rocky of FAC and maybe someone else. Marcel is now in the U.S. enjoying his stay and
  1166. traveling around. Things were different
  1167. without Marcel. At this time Ninja was
  1168. still calling out and trading with
  1169. Fairlight, until he was busted. After
  1170. he was busted he placed Oooowaahool
  1171. (Joe) - however you spell it! After the
  1172. two of us were busted, the remaining
  1173. FBR members failed to keep FBR at the
  1174. position it was a before. This was the
  1175. NEW FBR. Boba Fette broke away and
  1176. formed the group called 'The Survivors'
  1177. and Changeling broke away to form along
  1178. with Doppleganger 'Abyss'. The NEW FBR
  1179. was NEVER again like what FBR was
  1180. before. So in reality,
  1181.

  1203.  last person I talked to before I was busted and imported my last
  1204.  import 'Starforce Nova' for FBR from him. This Bud's for you, Marcel

  1208.      Many people have wondered 'Will I ever be busted?'. By phreaking
  1209.  or hacking you are taking that risk but hey 'Who cares?'. The day
  1210.  most pirates and hackers dread the most is that final day when a
  1211.  dozen of guys in blue suits come knocking at your door and flash
  1212.  their badges. In this article I will tell you exactly how I got
  1213.  busted and all the detailed informations.
  1214.  
  1215.      At the time when this incident occurred, I was still a member of
  1216.  FBR. I  phreaked daily to import many of the softwares for FBR.
  1217.  Shortly about 4 to 5 days after my 17th birthday, I was hacking into
  1218.  my local MCI system trying to find access codes and I was successful
  1219.  but  only for a while. MCI (with the cooperation of South Central
  1220.  Bell System) placed a 'pin register' ( in normal pirate terms, a
  1221.  fucking tap!) on my line. On August 7th, 1987 - 7:30 pm, I decided
  1222.  to go out to the movies but it was packed so I decided to come back
  1223.  home and then was forced to cut the lawn in the back-yard. While I
  1224.  was mowing the lawn, my little brother came up to me and said 'FBI
  1225.  and TBI are here!'. Thinking that this was a joke, I told him to
  1226.  shut up but he repeated it again. This time it stopped my heart. I
  1227.  dropped my weed-eater and rushed into the house and was faced with 4
  1228.  to 6 guys in vests and one muscular guy in a white T-shirt with the
  1229.  arms of my waist. As soon as they saw me, they quickly flashed their
  1230.  badges and identified themselves as TBI (Tennessee Bureau of Invest-
  1231.  igation) and FBI.  There were only two words in my mind, 'Oh Shit!.'
  1232.  There were three guys upstairs with me and the rest were downstairs
  1233.  packing and confiscating my computer equipments in 4 to 5 big card-
  1234.  board boxes.  While sitting down with the other three guys upstairs,
  1235.  they asked me if I was an American citizen and what my age was. They
  1236.  told me that I do not need to talk if I don't want to. No they did
  1237.  not read me my rights. So if someone tells you, 'They have to read
  1238.  you your rights!', that's CRAP! Unless they physically arrest you,
  1239.  they don't have to. The FBI agent commented to me by saying 'Odom,
  1240.  if you were 18 now... You know you would be arrested, don't you?' 
  1241.  I replied 'Yes I do.'  All these guys were real cool to me (not
  1242.  harassing me that is!) but the dickhead of the whole group was the
  1243.  South Central Bell Security Agent. This guy was a dick! Out of his
  1244.  briefcase he pulled out a receipt list about as long as 50 feet long
  1245.  (approximately). On the list were MCI codes that my hacker tried
  1246.  hacking out. But the officials only got me on two days of hacking
  1247.  and nothing else (not even phreaking). I did not phreak those two
  1248.  days and thus they could not charge me on phreaking. I have been
  1249.  phreaking for about four years but they only caught me on hacking
  1250.  for two days. The telephone security agent began asking me all sorts
  1251.  of questions like 'Where is your hacker disk?'  I replied back by
  1252.  'I don't know!' This only angered him and I thought to myself
  1253.  (They're confiscating my disk and it's all labeled. I might as well
  1254.  tell or the asshole'll try to be a bigger asshole.) While the three
  1255.  guys were asking all the routine informatioins such as what school
  1256.  do I go to, my occupation and ETC, the other guys were downstairs in
  1257.  my room with cardboard boxes confiscating my equipments. They took
  1258.  everything but my phonebook which was under my bed (Thank God!), but
  1259.  they only took one computer system. I had two, one to run a BBS and
  1260.  one to import, draw ,and compact. These are the following items they
  1261.  confiscated from me (I'm reading exactly from my receipt they gave
  1262.  me)

  1301.  confiscate because it had nothing to do with my hacking.So they left
  1302.  it alone (Thank God!). After all this happened, we called our family
  1303.  attorney and discussed about it.

  1309.  I waited that long and finally my court date came and I was summoned
  1310.  to appeared in Juvenile Court on Tuesday, June 7, 1988 -  1:00 pm.
  1311.  After discussing with my attorney before the court case,he told that
  1312.  they will keep my computer system and will not return it back.  He
  1313.  told me I MIGHT be prosecuted by both the State of Tennessee and MCI
  1314.  but so far only the state and I will be placed on Level 2 probation.
  1315.  He also told me that they might make me pay around $700 to $1000
  1316.  about 2 weeks before the court case.It took 2 hours to get the
  1317.  court ready and 5 minutes for the case to be heard. All the routine
  1318.  informationa were heard by the judge. I pleaded 'Guilty'(of course).
  1319.  Not knowing that my attorney and the District Attorney who was
  1320.  prosecuting me already worked out the court case by themselves, I
  1321.  was shocked of how easily I got off the hook.  We also knew the
  1322.  District Attorney too, she used to take my sisters to school in her
  1323.  car pool... Lucky heh? All I have to pay was a $50 court fine and a
  1324.  little part of my life. Well now I am on Level 2 probation which the
  1325.  court has jurisdiction beyond my 18th birthday.My curfew is 11:00 pm
  1326.  each night. If I stay out of trouble, they will literally clear my
  1327.  record so no one can ever see it again. So now I don't phreak and
  1328.  won't ever again. Anyone must be stupid if they phreak again after
  1329.  they were caught. Why phreak again to have your name on record?
  1330.  You're playing with your career and life. For a first offense they
  1331.  probably won't do anything to you but for a second?  Who knows?
  1332.  I don't want to know. I send my regards to those who do phreak..Just
  1333.  be careful guys!

  1345.       The affiant, 'agent', is a Special Agent for the Tennessee Bureau
  1346.  of Investigation and has been employed as a Special Agent for
  1347.  fifteen years.

  1349.       On August 8, 1987, Southern Central Bell Security, Nashville,
  1350.  Tennessee, related to this agent that he had received notification
  1351.  from MCI investigation that illegal access to the MCI Data Procesing
  1352.  System was being attempted by ODOM via his home telephone line in
  1353.  Nashville, TN.

  1355.       South Central Bell Security placed a 'pin register' on the
  1356.  telephone line 615-333-3381 which is identified as a 'data' line at
  1357.  South Central Bell records.A 'pin register' is a device which record
  1358.  all dial out attempts from a telephone. From this telephone number,
  1359.  some type of data processing system has attempted to extract data
  1360.  from the MCI Computer System in Nashville, TN. The data processing
  1361.  system attached to the telephone number 333-3381 has randomly
  1362.  attempted to gain valid 5-digit MCI authorization numbers. The 'pin
  1363.  register' tape documents several hundred attempts to gain valid MCI
  1364.  authorization numbers during the period of August 5, 1987 at 5:29 pm
  1365.  through August 6, 1987 at 3:30 a.m. Additinally, a following 'pin
  1366.  register' tape documents several hundred additonal attempts to gain
  1367.  valid MCI authorization numbers during the period of August 6, 1987
  1368.  at 10:59 a.m. through August 7, 1987 at 12:52 a.m. This system has
  1369.  been 'hacking' or attempting to extract data from MCI during this
  1370.  period.

  1372.     The attempts to gain valid MCI authorization numbers were made in
  1373.  random order and the use of access numbers was also changed at
  1374.  random. MCI officials advised that numerous valid authorization
  1375.  numbers were obtained during the period that the attempts were made.
  1376.  Also, Odom nor anyone at address, is an authorized MCI customer.
  1377.  
  1378.     South Central Bell records reflect that 615-333-3381 is installed
  1379.  in a residence located at 'address', and is a non-published, data
  1380.  line, number for Odom. Further investigation reflects that the
  1381.  activity originating at this address over telephone line is in
  1382.  violation of TCA 39-3-1404.
  1383.  
  1384.     Wherefore, for the foregoing reasons and the totality of the
  1385.  circumstances, your affiant requests a search and seizure warrant
  1386.  for 'address.'
